Risk assessment in police work especially when it is about public protection is not something police in Maldives is accustomed to. That’s no excuse to the very sloppy job they are doing in investigating the disappearance of Rilwan. Police manuals every where guides to treat a missing person case nothing less than a case of homicide. “IF IN DOUBT, THINK MURDER”.
Rilwan’s way of expressing opinion on social media emanates high risks to his safety. That’s no rocket-science for police to keep wondering if they are to step up efforts to find him. Incidences of this nature when managed inefficiently, raises the fear of crime in our society and defeats the purpose of having a police organization with ‘reducing the fear of crime’ being one of its key objectives. With a leadership aspirant to run the institution on military doctrines and equipment, one should not expect policing services in the interest of public safety! FBINA graduate has said it is best practice to treat missing person case as suspected homicide. I am hoping MPS would at least show some respect to the most political chief (a parliamentarian now) it ever had and put in fresh and genuine efforts to #FindMoyameehaa
